Margaret Ellen Kuss, 73

CUMBERLAND CENTER – Margaret Ellen Kuss, 73, passed away on August 31, 2017. She was born and raised in Wisconsin.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s of Science for Home Economics, she made her way east. She settled in Maine for the remainder of her lifetime. She taught home economics for a number of years and found it wasn’t her true passion. She redirected her career path into the area of retail. She worked as a buyer’s manager for Porteous Department Store and then moved on into owning a business as a seamstress. She also loved L.L.Bean and worked part time for many years during their busy season. More recently, she has thoroughly enjoyed working in the Pro Shop at Val Halla Golf Course. Her favorite pastimes were enjoying a good game of golf with close friends and soaking up the sunshine any chance she could get it.

She was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Margaret Schmidt; a sister, Karla Polansky; and her beloved soul mate, Thurlow Cooper.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan (James) Grangroth of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nephews, John (Janice) Bosman of Minnesota, Joe Bosman (Lisa) of Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Martha (Kent) Murdick of Falmouth; three stepgrandchildren; and stepson, Scott (Priscilla) Cooper of Colorado.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at Val Halla, 60 Val Halla Road, Cumberland Center. A private graveside service will be held earlier the same day.
