Val Halla is synonymous with junior golf in Maine. We have a wonderful staff and top-notch facilities.  The tradition continues…thank you for checking out our programs!  We have something for almost every junior whether they are 5 or 18…

.Types of programs below are geared towards four distinct categories…Camps, Classes, Events and Drop-Ins.  We offer programs in each category.  And what Val Halla doesn’t offer, Junior Golf Maine offers, through their wonderful programs (US Kids, NEPGA Tour, First Tee of Maine Link Program and the MSGA).

PROGRAM DETAILS

Who, what, where, when & how much?

 



Early Release Afterschool Golf (Grades 3-5)

This popular junior golf program will be offered as a way to introduce and instruct junior golfers in some of the vital areas of golf basics…grip and stance; chipping and putting; full swings; rules and etiquette.  It will also provide the opportunity to play the course should the golfers be “course ready.”  This course is perfect for the junior golfer who wants to learn the game of golf or improve their current skill level.  This program will be held rain or shine at Val Halla on each early release Wednesday.  Club storage and golf equipment is available for this program at no additional charge.

Location:  Val Halla Golf Course; (Cumberland Recreation will provide bus transportation from GMS and MIW after school).

 

Session:  Seven (7) Wednesday’s – 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 6/6, 6/13 (no program 5/30)

Time:  12:30 to 5:00pm

Fee:  $175; limited to 18 golfers

 

 

 

Overnight Golf Camp (Grades 4-7)

NEW!  Our first year trying this…an overnight golf camp for junior golfers.  One 4.5-day/night session. Our vision is to host a 24-hour golf camp and utilize the entire facility to provide a fun and enjoyable golf experience. We are positioned to offer a curriculum that mirrors that of PGA Junior Golf Camps by day and Val Halla’s own version of fun golf activities by night.  Indoor golf at the Tee Box, night golf with glow balls, disk golf at Twin Brooks, mini-golf at the Tee Box or Seacoast Adventure provide for fun filled evenings and opportunities to do different activities in golf.

Our vision is to provide a “L.L. Bean style” camp with tents, sleeping bags and maybe even a camp fire…

Location:  Val Halla Golf Course

Dates & Times:  July 16-20; 9:00 Monday thru 12:30 on Friday (4 nights)

Food:  Included for the entire week

Fee:  $450 Res/$499 Non-Res; Limited to 12 golfers


 

 

Indoor Golf League (Ages 10-18)

NEW!  Play on state-of-the-art indoor golf at the Tee Box. Formats to vary each week.  The fee covers all simulator-related expenses.  Something to do after-school on Tuesday’s and Friday’s early in the season when the weather is most unpredictable.

Location:  The Tee Box at Val Halla

Dates & Times:  Tuesday’s and Friday’s; 4/17 – 5/18; 3:30-5:00

Fee:  $120; limited to 16 golfers


Warmer days are coming!

Wee Golfer Clinics (Grades K-1)

A POPULAR CLASS…this program is for juniors entering grades K-1.  This program is an introduction to the game of golf.  We will use the putting green and driving range.  Val Halla can provide clubs for this program.

Location:  Val Halla Golf Course Putting Green & Driving Range

Dates & Times:  Saturday’s from 10-11

Session 1 – June 9, 16 & 30 (no class 6/23)

Session 2 – July 14, 21 & 28

Fee:  $0; limited to 16 golfers/session (Please do not sign up for more than 1 session)


U8 Junior League (Grades 1-3)

A program for juniors entering Grades 1-3.  This program will work on the basics but also emphasize what it means to become “course ready.”

Location:  Val Halla Golf Course

Session 1:  Dates & Times:  Saturday’s; 5/5 – 6/16; 2:00 – 3:00 PM (No class 6/2; DCP)

Session 2:  Dates & Times:  Saturday’s; 6/30 – 8/4; 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Fee:  $59 Res / $69 Non-Res; limited to 12 golfers


U11 Junior League (Grades 3-5)

A program for juniors entering Grades 3-5.  This program will work on the basics but also emphasize what it means to become “course ready.”

Session 1:  Saturday’s; 5/5 – 6/16; 3:30 – 4:30 PM (No class 6/2; DCP)

Session 2:  Saturday’s; 6/30 – 8/4; 3:30 – 4:30 PM

NEW!  U14 Middle School Golf Program (Grades 5-8)

A new “ala carte” middle-school-aged golf program comprised of clinics, lessons and competition with a variety of options and levels of participation beginning in April and ending in October with three points of entry (April, June and August).  Clinics and lessons will be conducted under the watchful eye of a PGA Professional.

Modeled after PGA Jr. League, this program is based on a practice or two per week and an event or tournament once a week.  We are scheduling practices on Monday’s and Thursday’s throughout the golf season (April to October).  Please see the Val Halla website for more information.

PGA Junior League (Ages 8-13)

The most popular junior golf program nation-wide is offered again this year at Val Halla. Last year we had two teams. We practice once a week working on skills and drills. Practice will be held on Tuesday’s from 3:30-5:30 PM. We play on Sunday afternoon/evenings from 4:00-6:30 PM.

 

Location:  Val Halla Golf Course

Dates & Times:  Practice: Tuesday’s, 5/22-7/17; 3:30 to 5:30 PM

Competition: Sunday’s 4:00-6:30 (see website for home and away matches)

Fee:  Res $199; limited to 12 golfers each session. Team jerseys, team hat, instruction, coaching, golf course fees, range fees, away course fees.

Chebeague Island Golf Camp (Ages 8-14)

 

A unique and exciting half day golf camp in Casco Bay. Modeled after PGA Junior Golf Camps, this camp will be a weeklong camp of all abilities.

 

We will meet at the CTC Bus lot on Route 1 each day at 7:30 for transportation to the terminal.

 

Location:  Great Chebeague Golf Course

Dates & Times:  July 30 – August 3; 7:30-12:30

Fee:  Res $215; limited to 6 mainland golfers who will travel with instructors each day.


PGA Junior Golf Camps (Ages 7-16)

Camp Highlights & Changes for 2017

  • Three (3) hours of hands-on instruction each day. This is dependent on each students golfing ability and golf needs as well as their ability to absorb golf instruction.
  • Use of advanced teaching technology.
  • 9-holes of golf daily including on-course instruction and daily competitions (full day campers only).
  • Skill development awards and recognition.
  • Golfers will utilize the Tee Box at Val Halla (state of the art indoor golf facility) from time to time during the week to work on various aspects of the game of golf.
  • Includes lunch for both half day and full day campers (menu to be distributed prior to camp and due on the first day).
  • End of camp week “PGA Junior Golfer Accomplishment Celebration.” This is held Friday morning. Friday’s camp ends at 12:30 each week (except 3-day week; camp ends at 4:00)

Full-day camps (ages 9-16) provide an excellent opportunity for junior golfers to improve their technical skills as well as develop strong course management skills. Participants are segmented into smaller groups based on their experience level in order to create the most favorable learning environment possible.  Camps will be 4.5 days in 2017 with full days Monday thru Thursday and half day on Friday (M-Th 9:00-4:00; F 9:00-12:30).  Fee for a 5-day session is $375 per week.

 

Our Half Day camps (7-13) are designed to create in the ‘new junior golfer’ up through those playing at an intermediate level. Participants are segmented into smaller groups based on their experience level in order to create the most favorable learning environment possible. For three hours each day, campers learn or hone their skills with a strong emphasis placed on golf’s fundamentals and well as have fun!  We will also play one morning depending on the course schedule.  Camps will be (M-F 9:00-12:30).  Fee for a 5-day session is $210 per week.

Camp Size Restrictions will be 18 full-day campers and 8 half-day campers each session.

LPGA-USGA Girls Golf (Grades 2-10) 

Program Director:  Karen Nicoletti, LPGA

We are excited to welcome LPGA Professional Karen Nicoletti, who will direct this program for 2018.

A nationally recognized program, Girls Golf provides girls with quality golf instruction led by LPGA and PGA teaching professionals or certified coaches from The First Tee. Not only are they experts in taking girls from beginner to advanced golfers, but they also specialize in creating experiences that show girls just how much fun golf really is!

We help empower them with confidence and teach them valuable life skills. From Leadership skills to inspiring healthy living, we use the Five E’s of Girls Golf to Empower, Enrich, Engage, Exercise, and Energize girls through the game of golf.

Dates & Times:  Sunday’s; 6/17 – 8/5; 3:00-4:30

Dennis Walters and Bucky

Parent/Junior Tournament

We are fortunate to have Dennis Walters visit Maine this summer.  The Dennis Walters Golf Show is a one hour combination of “Golf Lessons and Life Lessons”. It is great golf, great fun, along with an inspiring message.

 

Dennis will precede the Parent/Junior Tournament in which will play 9-holes with burgers, contests and prizes

Dates & Times:  Saturday, August 18; 1-5:00 PM

Fee:  $25 per team; includes 1-hour show; food; competitions and prizes.
